A game-changer for coaches: The toy sword meets Calibur

As a fencing coach, you know that teaching beginners, especially children, can be a challenge. Traditional weapons are often too heavy, and setting up a demo or a class outside your club takes a lot of time and effort. But what if you could take the fencing experience anywhere, without the hassle of wires and heavy equipment?

Built for real action

This toy sword works similarly to a sabre and connects with scoring systems: it registers a hit whenever the tip touches the metallic surface of a vest. However, instead of a steel blade, it features a lightweight plastic design. This makes it a much friendlier tool for youth training, giving your students the same "buzz" of a hit without the weight or cost of traditional gear. It’s the perfect blend of fun and function.

Why it’s a must-have?

Whether you are running an outreach program at a local school or hosting a demo match during an open house, you can now provide a professional experience without the full club setup.

  • Travel-friendly: No need to carry heavy bags to schools and camps
  • Built for children: The reduced weight helps young fencers focus on their movement instead of struggling with a heavy weapon
  • Engagement: In an introductory class, students get the instant excitement of a scoring system, which keeps them engaged and motivated
  • Compatibility: Our wireless system is fully compatible with the Eurofencing plastic sword and electrified vest. Please note that for the sensors to work correctly, you need to use their specific vest. We have optimized our system specifically for this Eurofencing kit to ensure the best experience for your students.

How to get started?

Ready to try it out? Setting up the toy sword with your Calibur system is quick and easy. Depending on how you fence, just follow these simple steps:

Using the Calibur App: First, make sure you update your app to the latest version. Once updated, simply open the app and select the "Toy sword" icon on the main screen. It’s that simple!

Using a traditional scoring box (with the Relay): You can also use the toy sword with your standard scoring box. Set up your Relay as you normally would, but to select the correct weapon mode, press the middle button three times quickly.

To learn more about the Calibur system, check out this more detailed guide.

Ready to level up your coaching?

Whether you're coaching a young beginner or leading a high-energy demo, this toy sword gives you the flexibility you need, without compromising on feedback or interaction. Try it at your next session and discover how it can make fencing more accessible, engaging, and fun, for you and your students.

Got questions? We’re here to help!

We want to make sure you get the most out of your wireless system. If you have any questions about the toy sword setup, compatibility, or how to update your devices, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Our Journey: From First Prototype to a New Era in Fencing

When we soldered together the very first experimental pocket boxes in 2020, we weren’t sure what to expect. Would they even work on the piste? Those first field tests in épée and foil felt like a leap into the unknown — but when the lights came on and the system responded just as we hoped, we knew we were onto something special.

From that moment, the idea became a mission.

2021 - Turning prototypes into products

After countless late nights and iterations, we completed the development of our first-generation pocket box. For the first time, fencers could experience a reliable, portable scoring system that fit in their pocket. We opened sales globally, and within months, hundreds of devices were being used in clubs around the world.

Announcement of Calibur production in 2021.
The 1st generation Calibur Pocket Boxes, our first product to be available around the globe.

2022 - Gaining trust in the community

As word spread, two of the biggest names in fencing — PBT and Allstar — decided to carry our product. For us, it was more than just retail agreements; it was validation that even established players in the sport saw the value of what we were building. Ever since, Calibur is available in dozens of physical fencing stores worldwide.

2023 - Into the spotlight

The year brought challenges and big opportunities. We were invited to present our vision on Shark Tank, a nerve-wracking but unforgettable experience. Soon after, STRT Holding joined us as an investor. With their support and the community’s continued enthusiasm, sales soared into the thousands.

2024 - A breakthrough for sabre

Sabre fencers had been patiently waiting, and finally, the Gen2 Pocket Box delivered. Scoring was now possible without any extension kits — and we used the redesign to bring major improvements in accuracy, ease of use, and overall experience. It felt like a new chapter for our technology.

2025 - Connecting past and future

This year, we introduced the Relais: a bridge between tradition and innovation. For the first time, pocket boxes can connect to classic scoring machines, transforming them into wireless systems without losing the feel of tradition. It’s the clearest sign yet that our goal isn’t just to innovate, but to integrate.

Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come in just five years. What started as a small experiment has grown into a movement, embraced by fencers across the world. And while we’re proud of what we’ve built so far, we know the journey is only beginning.

What's next?

We’re not stopping here. The next steps on our journey include introducing piste grounding, polishing accuracy in those specific edge cases for foil and sabre, and making our website available in new languages — so even more of the fencing world can connect with us directly.

Here’s to the next chapter.

Bringing Fencing to Where It’s Never Been Before – “E tla Natšo”

In the world of fencing, we often talk about courage, strategy, and perseverance. But in South Africa’s Limpopo province, these values have taken on a whole new meaning through the E tla Natšo Project — an inspiring initiative whose name in Sepedi means “Bring it on”.

Led by the passionate and tireless Dr. Renuka Ramroop, the project is breaking down barriers that have long kept fencing out of reach for rural and underserved communities. For too long, this beautiful sport was seen as the preserve of the privileged few. E tla Natšo is changing that — proving that fencing belongs not only in big city clubs but also in school halls, playgrounds, and community centers in places where many children had never even seen a fencing blade before.

Watch our quick interview with Dr. Renuka Ramroop made during the FISU World University Games in Essen!

What the project is about

At its heart, the E tla Natšo Project is about bringing fencing into places where sporting opportunities are almost non-existent. In small villages and rural schools, where children often have little access to structured activities, fencing becomes not just a sport but a gateway to growth. Coaches and volunteers work directly with these communities, introducing the discipline of fencing and offering young people the chance to train, compete, and dream beyond the boundaries of their immediate surroundings.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

In 2024, the project celebrated its first national medal when Jonathan Mathete climbed the podium at the Junior Nationals. For the young fencers of Limpopo, this wasn’t just a medal — it was proof that their dreams were valid, their training mattered, and their place in the sport was real.

But the project’s true victories can’t be measured in medals alone. They are found in the look on a child’s face when they try on a mask for the first time, in the friendships formed across villages, and in the growing confidence of young athletes who learn to stand tall — on and off the piste.

Fencing as a Force for Change

Through E tla Natšo, fencing has become more than just a sport. It’s a tool for:

This is fencing at its most powerful — not just shaping athletes, but shaping lives.

Breaking Down Barriers

One of the greatest challenges for new clubs, especially in rural areas, is access to equipment and infrastructure. That’s where innovation plays a role. Today, technology like the Calibur wireless scoring system makes it easier than ever to bring fencing to places without traditional setups. Without the need for complex cabling or expensive scoring machines, a club can start small — in a school hall, a community center, or even outdoors — and grow from there.

It’s exactly this kind of accessibility that allows projects like E tla Natšo to take root, flourish, and inspire.

Why We Should All Be Proud

As fencers, we should take pride in knowing that our sport is expanding into new territories, reaching young people who might never have dreamed of stepping onto a piste. Every foil, épée, and sabre bout fought in Limpopo’s rural schools is a testament to fencing’s universal appeal — and a reminder that our sport thrives when it belongs to everyone.

So to the team at the Limpopo Fencing Association: E tla Natšo. Bring it on. The fencing world is watching — and cheering you on.

How to support the project?

Taking fencing to rural areas is not just about sport—it’s about equity, transformation, and hope. But it cannot be done it alone. Your can contribute to:

By partnering with LFA for the E tla natšo project, supporters become part of a powerful movement for change—one that is redefining who gets to participate, excel, and lead in sport and society.

FNCNG Streetwear – Because the Fight Doesn’t End on the Piste

At Calibur, we know the feeling. That exact moment when you tighten your glove, lower your mask, and step onto the piste — confident, focused, sharp. But what about the rest of the day? When you’re not fencing? Until now, probably nothing special. That’s about to change.

Meet FNCNG – A Streetwear Brand Born from the Spirit of Fencing

This fall, our good friends at PBT Fencing are unveiling something new: FNCNG Streetwear (pronounced: fencing). It’s not just about what you wear in the hall — it’s about how you carry the spirit of fencing everywhere you go.

FNCNG is created by fencers, for fencers, and for everyone who believes fencing is more than a sport. It’s identity. It’s elegance and edge. It’s personal.

What Makes FNCNG Different?

This isn’t just apparel. It’s a statement. A connection to our community, our history, and our shared obsession with precision and individuality.

Calibur x FNCNG — A Natural Match

Just like our Calibur Pocket Boxes and Relays that bring cutting-edge tech to the piste in a matchbox-sized form, FNCNG brings that same philosophy to what you wear: functional, sharp, and unapologetically fencing.

So yeah, we’re hyped. And proud to introduce FNCNG to our Calibur family.

Watch our quick set-up tutorial!

Use your Calibur pocket boxes with traditional scoring machines. The Relay makes traditional systems wireless, saving you from costly repairs or refurbishing.

✅ Compact scoring machine

Ready for Preorder

The Relay will start shipping in July, and preorders open today. Early adopters get priority fulfillment and a small thank-you from us:
10% off if you preorder before 31th May -> 18th of June!

To everyone who helped test and refine the Relay: thank you. Your feedback shaped this product into something that truly bridges tradition and technology. We can’t wait to get it into your hands.

Got questions? Drop us a message. Want to see the Relay in action? We’ll be posting demo videos on our social channels soon.

Let’s upgrade fencing together.
