Getting started

Calibur is a wireless scoring system for fencers of all three disciplines. The core of our system is the Pocket Box, a compact device that detects hits from your weapon and sends the signal to your chosen display device.

The two ways of Calibur

Fencing made flexible: track hits on your own smart device with the Calibur App, or sync with standard scoring machines using the Relay.

The Calibur App

The Portable Setup
By downloading the Calibur app to your smartphone or tablet (available for free on AppStore, Google Play, and Amazon), your own device becomes the scoreboard.
Who is this for?
We recommend this for fencers who want to practice outside of a traditional club environment. It is the perfect choice for:
  • home or outdoor training
  • fencing demo or school session
  • warming up at a competition

The Relay

The Club Setup
The Relay works like a pair of reels: plug it in your traditional scorebox to make it compatible with our wireless technology. Ideal for a tidy and modern fencing hall.
Who is this for?
This is the best option for clubs to get rid of the cable-related repairs. We recommend it for clubs who:
  • want the freedom of wireless fencing
  • while training in a well-equipped hall

The Relay

It allows you to use your wireless setup with a traditional scoring machine

How to set up?

Download the
Calibur App

Find it on the App Store, Google Play, or Amazon: System requirements: iOS 15.1+ or Android 8.0+. Open the app and select your weapon (épée, foil, sabre or plastic foil).

Connect the
Pocket Boxes

Press the white button on the first Pocket Box (the LED will turn blue). Tap the fencer icon on the left side of the app screen to pair it. Repeat this for the right side with the second box. Once connected, the LED turns green.

Ready, fence!

Plug your body wire into your Pocket Box. You are now ready to fence!

Features & Customization

Beyond the basic setup, the Calibur app offers several tools to make the most out of your bouts. In our detailed guide below, you can learn how to customize the scoreboard, adjust the signal duration, or use the Remote Control mode to manage the clock and score from a distance.

How to set up the Relay?

Power and choose
your weapon

Connect the Relay to a power source (power bank or wall plug) to turn it on. Use the middle button on the device to select your weapon (Foil, Epee, or Sabre). You can also enable plastic foil mode by rapidly pushing the middle button three times in a row.

Connect to the
Pocket Boxes

Turn on the Pocket Boxes by pressing their white buttons. The LEDs of the Relay will start as yellow, then turn green as each box connects. Once both boxes are paired, the LEDs on the Relay will turn blue.

Plug and fence!

Use two standard floor cables: plug one end of each wire into the sides of the Relay, and the other end into the scoring machine. (Note: You can also use épée body wires). That't it, you're ready to fence!

Relay Essentials

If you want to dive deeper, we have a guide that covers the basics of the device. In the article below, you can learn more about the LED indicators and buttons on the Relay, and see a step-by-step walkthrough on how to pair your pocket boxes and wire the device to a scoring machine for a seamless, wireless experience.

For sabre fencers

Due to the technical requirements of Sabre, you must use the Sabre Armband Set for the system to work correctly.

Wear the
Armband

Put the armband on your bare upper arm. It is essential to have direct contact with your skin.

Plug it in

Snap the armband cable onto the metal stud on the armband. Plug the other end of the cable into the fourth socket of your Pocket Box.

Set, fence!

Once both fencers have connected their armbands and paired their Pocket Boxes as described above, you are ready to start.
Check out our tutorial about the Armband Set!

Ready to upgrade your game?

Hundreds of fencers are already using the Pocket Box for their daily training. Don't miss out on the fun: grab yours and step onto the wireless strip!
